Wedding shower!

Well here it is, only three weeks until Dan and Meg's big day. We cannot believe that we are old enough to have a nephew getting married even if he is 26! The shower was in the party room at the top floor of their condo building in the city of Chicago. It is just across the street from Soldier's field. What a beautiful view.

Our Nephew, Kevin and his mom, Dana prepared the meal. And it was so delicious! We are thankful the country club let Kevin have the day off from cooking to cook for the family. It really is nice having a professional chef in the family. Dan's cousin Megan really enjoyed the party too! Wow, two beautiful women in the family with the same name - first and last!
The party was enjoyed by all the guests. Dan's sister Catie was just enjoying the day before her big triatholon on Sunday! Run Cate, Run - No, swim Cate, swim,- oh Bike Cate, bike! Hope she made it.
Annabelle and her cousin, Grace enjoyed playing at the shower. Annabelle is so excited that Megan will be an official cousin now! Thanks for the invite Megan and Dan.

Father's Day weekend

Here Scott and I are prepping the yard on Saturday for the dual Father's Day and Scott's 11th Birthday celebration. Even though Scott's birthday isn't until next month, we celebrated early because Mark's nephew Dan is getting married the day prior to Scott's big day. Saturday was beautiful! Annabelle was our photographer for the weekend.

Yes, I do it all - trim bushes and mow the lawn! I actually enjoy this type of work. I know, this proves that I'm crazy!

Sunday, was a weird weather day. First it's nice out and the kids played in the yard. Then came the lightning and rain. Of course, just when Mark was putting the food on the grill. I know it wasn't fun cooking in the downpour but that pork tenderloin was delicious!!!

Family came for the day. Mark's parents, my Mom and my sister Paula are just a few of the guests we had.

Paula's daughter Riley was so excited about the party. Her son Randy was too, although I'm not sure why but I have several pictures with this same expression! Happy early Birthday Scott. Hope being 11 is just as cool as 10 was.

After the stormy weekend look what mother nature left me. All of my rose bushes bloomed together. It's was a welcome surprise when I went around the corner of our house to check on the plants.

Annabelle has been enjoying soccer this year. She's the Lime green team for Tom Kelly's Bar and Grill here in New Lenox. Does it seem right that a bar sponsor's children's sport teams??? No goals yet this year but boy has she been kicking a few away to protect her goal.

Annabelle is the tall one in the middle here and on the far right in the second picture. No your eyes do not deceive you - she's wearing contacts to play soccer! Below is what happens when you ask a 10 year old for a picture of his new buzz cut. We laughed hard when the picture was reviewed because Scott thought it looked like he had an afro with the Rooster's tail behind him!

Of course, little sister, Annabelle could not let Scott have all the fun. Again, your eyes do not deceive you - she is a little taller than her brother!
Have a great weekend and enjoy Father's day.

Weekend Circus

So this weekend started out like normal. Annabelle had soccer games. Friday night's game was cancelled due to Tornado Watch. So we decided to go see the new Indiana Jone's movie. For a sequel I didn't think it was so bad. It was at least entertaining. Worth seeing at the theatre ? No, but none the less we did.

Saturday morning, the weather was better so Annabelle's game went off without a hitch. She played well and defended her teams goal well. We went home and then my brother, Steve phoned. Mom had fallen and he had phoned 911. I asked which hospital and said I would meet him there. After a delay in getting to see our mother in emergency. They ended up admitting her so they could monitor her overnight. Well about 2 hours after being admitted and trying to get comfortable in her room. The hospital goes to code gray. Tornado Watch. Staff came around and closed all the patients blinds (out of sight out of mind?) and stated that if we hear code BLACK we will be moved into the halls of the hospital. Sure enough a few minutes later code BLACK. So we had to move into the hall - in the mean while my Mom (poor thing) starts to hurl. We placed her in the bathroom and figured she was safe and left her there until the all clear. The rest of the evening seems to go okay and the next day we find out that my Mom's potassium levels were really low (due to one of her new meds) and this is probably what caused the passing out. The whole time I'm thinking this weekend is like a circus act - waiting for information - my sister getting it from her sources (she's a nurse at the sister hospital) -sharing it with other family members by phone- waiting to see if and when we could go home- worrying about the weather, mom, kids at home. Then to top it all off, when we were leaving the hospital, a bearded black lady wheeled our mother out!

Thankfully Mom is okay. Just really tired. No one sleeps in the hospital. I came home on Sunday to a wonderful husband who was getting ready to do our grocery shopping, had dinner planned, and the lawn mowed. Love the spouse idea! Spent the evening with my girl while Scott had his friend Keith for a sleepover.

Here we are another Monday, back to work and looking for better weather.

Well here it is...

My first blog - I never even knew what a blog was until my friend, Joanne shared hers. She's right this is pretty easy.

Okay, today is the first day of summer! Yeah for the kids. No more studies, so that's what they thought until I through out a couple of spelling words to each of them this morning. Scott and Annabelle both ended the year with all A's. That is all A's for the entire year if anyone is keeping track. We are so proud of them.

Annabelle is playing soccer again and seems to really like the defense position. I think it's because she doesn't like to run all over. Scott finally decided that having a bushy head of hair wasn't really going to work for this summer - so the buzz cut has arrived. He loves waking up to no more bedhead!

We are already counting down the days until our family vacation. We look forward to visiting Northern Wisconsin every year. Mark really hopes to catch some fish this year. I decided to purchase an insurance policy and booked a fishing guide our first full day up there!

Well, I know it's not great but at least I did it - I blogged.
